The roster features twelve returning players from the 2017 team that finished fourth in their inaugural trip to the tournament under Head Coach, Chad Asselstine.
The forwards will see seven returnees, including a number of key pieces to their offensive production including Travis Parkin, Bryan McGahey, Iain Downes, Andrew Jegg, and Gordy Clemas. They’ll be looking to a couple of fresh faces to lend a boost to the offence and fill the void left by the departure of McKenzee MacQueen, who will be suiting up with Team Canada at the other Federation. Look for newcomers Connor Lyttle (London Gulls), and Landen Burkley (Edmonton Savages) to be counted on to add some firepower to the roster.
“We still have some ways to go in order to gel as a team and get familiar with each other,” said team Captain, Iain Downes. “But I know we have a room full of character guys who really want to be here, and I’m confident we will be ready to go by June.”
It’s no secret that the last year’s team was built around solid defence so, it’s no surprise to see four of the six defensive spots locked up by returnees Brandon Dymond, Troy Minor, Dan Ruddach, and Craig Wood. Filling out the back end will be newcomers, Ben Asselstine (London Throwbacks), and Cory Wick (Barrie Flyers).
Assistant Captain, Dan Ruddach said, “We feel that we have a lot to prove at this year’s tournament and all of the guys are really excited to get going.”
Netminder, Gage Gonyou returns for his second year with Team Great Britain Heritage. In last year’s tournament, Gonyou went 1-1 with a 3.50 GAA and a .841 SV%. New to Team GB this year is Bram Leggatt (Niagara War Pigs). Leggatt recently wrapped up strong winter season campaign with the War Pigs posting a 7-7 record with a 3.95 GAA and a .849 SV%.
Men’s 5vs5 Head Coach Chad Asselstine said, “We’re happy with how the roster came together this year. We have a great mix of core vets and we have been able to address some important areas of our game with the new roster additions.”
